What do I need to play on the Internet?
FIFA 99 software, you can have the one w/CD or without
A steady Internet connection (ISDN recommended)
Pentium 166 (P2 233 recommended)
16 megs of ram (32-64 recommended)
IPX protocol setup on your computer
Registration Process
The following is the steps you have go through in order to get the Internet play
working. Just follow the steps.
- Go to http://www.heat.net/.
(We will use Heat.net to play Fifa99 over the Net, using a Network.)
- When you get their click on the link that says "new users click here.
- Now you will be required to fill out some info, like a user name and password (which u
can randomly choose). After you are done that, click continue.
- Now you must download a program called Katalyst, which is necessary in order to use
Heat.net.
- Now you are officially registered. I will now go over the process to connect to a game
with another player, using Heat.net.
Game Play
After going to Heat.net, you have to login by putting in your user name and password,
then press play now, but do not select a game.
When you login you will see a list of games on the right side of the screen in red
print. Above the featured game is a pull down menu, that by default says,
"Alphabetical." Click on it and change it to the heading that says other.
Now you have another list of red links on the right side of the screen, click on the one
that says "PlayOtherGame".
On the main menu screen you should see a option that says "Play Now". Click on
it. It will load the heat.net program. (Their will be a update when you do this, and yes
you must go through it every time. I feel your pain!)
Now that you have finished the update, you will notice that you are in a room with other
people in it, who you can chat with.
To play a game with your opponent, one you must create a new game. (each of those icon
things with a title are games being played) You can either click on the menu bar that says
New Game or click on the Icon that says new game. By the way, make sure each of you know
the name of the room being created, or you could just make it a easy name like "fifa
game."
Now that you both are in a room, one of you is the mediator (usually the one who created
the room). The mediator must launch the game, but the opponent must first press
"ready to play."
Now the RIPX is being activated, which will make your computer think you are on a LAN.
This will make a network type environment.
A little menu says RIPX is activated and your Windows screen is displayed (if something
else is displayed, such as your Web Browser, just minimize or close it).
Now just go to Fifa as you normally would if you were playing yourself.
When you have reached Fifa99, click on the option that is for Multi-player play.
When you get their click on the small arrow near the top of the screen that displays the
type of Multi-player connection. It will either be: Serial, modem, or network. Put it on
Network.
Then you have to either initialize a game, or join a game that your opponent has
created. Also, you can change the name you will be viewed as under the connection type.
You both can now chat with each other.
